Any advice, my poor dd's toenail!

Me and my youngest 2 dc have had a traumatic afternoon. After a lovely few hours at the beach, it all went pear shaped on the way back to the car in the public toilets.

Dd, 3 years old was in the middle of having a wee when Ds, 4, decided to do a runner and managed to get out the main door. As I went grab hold of him, dd had finished and followed me. Course I didn't realise this until too late and as I rushed into see to her, I bloody slammed the door on her toe Shock. There was blood so I wrapped it in tissue and got home ASAP.

Now we are back and it's rinsed off, I can see that I've ripped off her entire toenail! It's clean and we have sort of bandaged it to protect it and will pop her up to docs in morning. Or should we go to out of hours tonight?

Poor thing is exhausted and has had some calpol. God I feel terrible. In the stress of chasing Ds, it didn't occur to me she could be behind the door. It must be so painful Sad

Poor you and poor DD! I think I would be inclined to take her to out-of-hours doc or even A&E, to get a medical opinion and a proper dressing, and maybe some stronger painkillers.

ooh, that sounds very painful. I think I would have to take her to a & e. Even if it is clean, it may require checking that it is totally clean and some proper bandaging. Perhaps they will recommend more pain relief too?

Hope she feels okay soon.

In a&e now. She has had an X-ray just in case the door wen right over her toe and hopefully they will just steri strip the nail down and see if it reattaches or a new one grows through underneath.
They said if she was a grown up they may have tried to push the nail back in but luckily they won't put a little one through that. Make my tummy go all squiffy just thinking about it.
Thanks for your quick replies earlier. I really didn't know if I was overreacting or not. Flowers
