My mam is on Coronary care wqrd :(

She rang the dr out yesterday and he came to the house. Think he only came as she never goes to the drs and they must've thought at her age, 76, they'd better see what was wrong. Anyway, her bp was sky high and her heartbeat very fast...over 200 and erratic. She went on the assesment ward in the hospital and today I rang and she's on coronary care. Dh is going to have the kids whilst I visit her. There'll be quite a few of us there during the day though so we'll have to take turns no doubt.

She's so scared bless her But she's been so naughty, her dr gave her bp tablets and she stopped taking them. I kept telling her to go to drs but she wouldn't. I just hope it isn't too serious and she can just take a pill to help her?

My mum has been in hospital a bit this year and it is very worrying, hope everything is ok

thanks you two. I went to visit her today and she's got a bit more colour. Her heart rate is still erratic and her bp still high. I think they're just trying to get it stable before they do anything else?

thanks ggirl. I jump whenever the phone rings at the moment. It's a good hospital for heart problems so that's one thing in her favour.

How worrying for you Ulysees. All I know is that the standard medication for BP takes a week to be effective so yes they probably need to get her stable first. Your mum is in the best place to be looked after.

Hi, Ulysees,

Thinking of your mum and you all. My dad has been in CCU a lot these last couple of years (also with v high and erratic HR) and it is so scay at first but they can do so much these days, so please try and think positive. Take care, Dinny x

hope your mum feels better soon, my FIL is just out of hospital and he was critical in the coronary care ward, they run lots of tests to find out any problems and then he was allowed home rattling full of pills after 4 days, he is on 5 pills a day for life, but the good thing is they found out the problem and it could be treated, just reasuring you mum with all the tests they will be doing will help her

She rang me from her bed this morning and sounded so chirpy, much chirpier than me lol!! I was shattered as I can't sleep but she did

I'll see her today and hopefully find out some more.

Same happened to my mum, and she was transferred from a normal hospital to the CCU. It took a while to stabilise her bp and get her heart rate sorted but....that was 13 years ago, she just hit 80, and is still going strong. Still moans about the tablets though!
Take care of yourself - I really know what you're going thru'.

Thanks for asking fairyjay. I went to see her last night and she was very happy...reckon they've given her something She's being moved to another ward and will be in over the weekend. They're giving her a heart scan on Monday which I presume is ultrasound? She's already had chest scan which didn't show anything.

I'm going to see her with my sister tonight then we're hitting the town. I don't drink much tbh but think I deserve one or two as apart from this had an awful year.

Hopefully this might have scared her into taking her tablets, and doing as she's told.
It seems it's parents worrying you at one end, and kids at the other, with us squashed in the middle sometimes! Wouldn't be without any of them though!

How scary for you all. Hope it means your mum will start to take any meds she needs.

I have been on CCU for a night - for tests when my palpatations and tachycardia were playing up quite bad. Have to say it was a great place to be in that there is so much care in there. The staff were so attentive the whole time.

hulababy, my mum loves the staff.....a bit too much. She's got all of their life stories. A poor Irish nurse came in yesterday and she said "A.... this is the nurse who met her dh abroad" I smiled and said oh where did you meet him? Nurse said Belfast and we both posl

I can't believe how much info she's got out of them poor things. She'll have a fresh set of staff to set about now

My sis,neice and I went to visit Mam last night but she was very down. I think the fact she's staying in until at least Monday doesn't help. Plus she's been depressed since my sister died 3 years ago. Sis and I had a word with a nurse and she's going to tell mam's dr about her low mood. Mam hasn't told her own gp she's depressed but is beginning to admit it to us now.

Another thing that worried me is I saw the name of the dr who treated my late sister - on a door. I talked to the nurse and told her mam would go nuts if he had anything to do with her and the nurse said she'd make a note of it. Let's just say we weren't happy with him during sis's illness and after her death It could bring on anything in mam if he approached her.

Sis, neice and I then went to the town and had a few bevvies I got chatted up by neice's mate who's 10 years my junior so I was chuffed He was nice looking too but not my type lol.

Oh and mam has atrial fibrilation. I more or less knew this from googling but they've diagnosed it now.
