my dd has been off colour for a few days, has a temp too. Took her to emergency doc's on Sunday as she has also been complaining of a sore tummy and was saying it hurt when she wee'd.

Anyway doc said she has blood in her urine and has given her antibiotics to take for a week.

What can cause this in a child? Anyone know?

TIA

My DD had something similer when she was 3 went to emergancy docs said it was infection and gave antibiotics, had to take a sample to my own gp for further testing and that came back clear he said that urine can pick up alsorts on the way out especially if she's sore

uti leading to kidney infection ... very sore but she'll be fine in a day or two

give lots of fluids and cranberry juice

I get urine infections all the time, it can be caused by not drinking enough or not going to the toilet frequently (or rather not going to the toilet when you need to)
AB's do clear it up quickly but if left untreated, it can go to the kidneys.

When DD had one, she had to go for a scan to check it hadn't reached her kidneys. The dr said that was routine for under 5's.

I think what your doctor is reffering to is called microscopic hematuria it means the blood cannot be detected with the naked eye and that a test done by the doctor shows it. It rarely points to a kidney problem and usually they ask for a follow up exam in the future. I would not be concerned.
