What happens to NHS stuff when you move?

I`ve been on waiting list for 6 months for diagnostic procedure. If I move to Scotland (as is looking likely) do I start again or will I be credited?
Also I see a Urologist once a year, will I just be transfered or will I have to go through a wait for a 1st appt etc as when I was first refered?
My son sees an OT and a Paediatrician. It took years (literally) to get him on there books. Will he be transfered or do I have to go through all that cr*p again?

WHen we moved from one trust to another ( but still within England) dd1's paed etc just wrote a letter for referral and sent it to the hospital etc. Probably helped that dh worked for the new hospital trust we were moving too.

I would imagine you would jsut need your consultants to refer you and your son. I also asked for a copy of dd1's medical records for us to have - especially helpful when moving to Aus.

Ring the secretary of the urologist you see. Tell her to get her boss to write a letter to the new guy in Scotland (you will have to ring new hospital and find out name of a urologist there). Give the secretary the name and full address. Then ring back every few days to check she has done it.

Same procedure for the Paediatrican.

I'm a medical secretary and when our patients move, my boss only knows to refer them on if the patient tells him to. Otherwise, the only clue we have that they are not on our books anymore, is when the don't turn up to their yearly appointment. We just discharge them if they haven't asked for anything otherwise.

figleaf - where are you moving to in Scotland? I could maybe give you some names of decent Urologist/Paed depending on the area?
Waiting lists in scotland are on average shorter than in England anyway, but a name might help.

actually-ask the urologist if he has any contacts in Scotland- a personal referral may be quicker!

you will register with a gp most up here then will see you for a new patient check. you can then tell them all stuff. you will be referred but the will be able to get you notes sent to the relevant consultant/paed. smae with the OT

Tissy.... Sorry I came across as a bit bossy saying 'tell' instead of 'ask'. I was going to type tell/ask, but was being lazy.

The paedatrician sec is really helpful and friendly so I`ll defo try the route of getting her to get him to write a letter to a paed in Scotland. I dont ever have contact with the Urologist sec but he must have one so I could try the same thing there.
We hope to move to the Stirling area by Christmas harrisae if that helps with the name recommendations.
