DS has had swollen and 'veiny' tonsils for over 3 months

My 2.5 year old ds has has extremely swollen tonsils with visible red veins running through them for over 3 months now. I have been to the doctor about 5 times, he has had 2 courses of antibiotics, but they have not gone back to normal. He is not actually unwell in himself, and has not complained of a sore throat. Our GP has now refered us to the hospital. When I asked him what he thought it could be he said he wouldn't like to speculate, which has worried me a bit. Has anyone else had any experience with this, and if so what was the outcome?

Kids often have massive tonsils even if not 'infected'. Most likely nothing to worry about especially if he is well and not causing problems with his breathing. My nephews tonsils almost meet in the middle and he is absolutely fine. Hopefully the docs at the hospital will be able to reassure you.

Thanks Sallyrosie, I had never heard of any other children having swollen tonsils as the norm. They do look alarming, but as you say he is fine in all other aspects so hopefully it is nothing.
I wonder why some children get enlarged tonsils.
Thanks again, I feel much better about it now.

My dd has had tonsilitis three times in 12 months. I have been told that she had large tonsils, they are much biggers that ds and dd2s, I would describe them as swollen in comparison. two difference drs said that this was normal for some children.
