TMI - Depo Provera bleeding

I had a shot of the Depo Provera in October last year. All was well until the December where I bled for 37 days straight. It was incredibly light spotting type bleeding but frustrating and the cramping was painful.

I was due another shot at the beginning of January but I decided against it and cancelled my appointment.

Since then, I have bled lightly for 3-4 days every 5-6 days if that makes sense. I'll have a few days bleeding, a couple of days off then bleeding again.

In the past few weeks, I've bled constantly and a lot heavier some days and it's started to have an effect on my sex life. I can go all day sometimes with no bleeding, go to dtd and I start bleeding again, almost like a trigger. My on off dp (a whole other thread) has been quite understanding but I know he's starting to get annoyed and sex has gone to almost nothing now and I'm frustrated Blush

I know spotting can be normal from the Depo injection but that's been 6 months since I had an injection and I'm still spotting and bleeding all over the place daily.

Has anyone else experienced this and does it sound like something I should go to my gp about?

I would go to your GP. I didn't have periods on the depo but it did take about 18 months for my period to restart after the last injection so I know it can take a while to go back to normal cycles. I was on it for a couple of years though.
I once had a long bleed near the end of an implant and was given the mini pill to stop it so that might be an option for you?

Thanks I will make an appointment as soon as I can.

I used to use Depo as a contraceptive because it stopped my periods. I was on it for 2 years, and came off it to find it took almost a year for my period to start up and another year after that to conceive dd2.

I was advised against it by my gp but I was adamant I wanted it because I knew it stopped my hellish periods - how wrong I was this time, it has made things worse.
