Hi..

DP just fell out of bed, god knows how...

She has obviously put her teeth straight through her tongue.

It has a big open cut nearly the length of it and is gapping slightly...

Do hospitals stitch tongues?

She can barely open her mouth, altho, she has spat blood afew times, it's not bleeding.

I know tongues heal really quick, and I know it's difficult because you can't see but should she be going to the hospital?

She is crying, only ever seen her cry when someone dies

I don't know the answer so suggest you phone NHS Direct and see what they say.

Yes tongues can be and should be stitched. Please take her to A and E :)

If not stitched it will br slow healing, painful, prone to infection and may scar.

when DD was 3 she slipped on her step at the sink & put her teeth through her tongue, there was a hole in her tongue. GP said take her to A&E. A&E doc said they usually only stitch tongues if it spilts either almost fully horizontally or in a forked manner. He noted that the tongue is one of the fastest healing parts of the body.

within a few days it had healed not completely but you could only see a mark.

We just kept food simple for a few days but DD didn't seem too bothered.

Would definitely get her checked out to be sure there's no complications.

It's near enough across the whole of her tongue.
Her face is swollen and she can barely talk, but she says hospital won't do anything....

Has she to been to hospital?

No she hasn't, she's so stubborn

my son split his tongue horizontally at 18 months..people 'wisely' said to me tongues heal themselves...i left it a week...took him to gp as it healed split apart and he was sent straigt to maxfacs for operation to recut and stitch..i felt dreadful!

It might also be worth checking out why she fell out of bed. The combination of the fall and the bitten tongue could possibly be the result a seizure. Unlikely, but not out of the question, and worth checking out.

I would encourage her to get herself checked out, even if to get some pharmacy grade painkillers as that tongue is going to be sore.

It needs stitched now or could heal badly and need a bigger operation.
