My dh is never ill, yesterday afternoon he came home from work complaining of not feeling very well! He had a face that would outdo a beetroot, I did his temp it was 39! He had paracetamol and diclofenic and slept it off! He woke around9 had a bath and said he felt better that temp was down but still felt off. We phoned ooh and they said it sounds viral but to phone back if it persists!

Fast forward until an hour ago, we have a two week old ds and he went to fetch a bottle and nkw has been violently sick and has the shakes, he stumbles to walk and is uneasy on his feet, his temp is 38.4 again had paracetamol and diclofenic temp hasn't shifted! He also said he had aches in his legs and behind his iness! Rang the ooh doc and they have said there's nothing they can do now to see his own gp! IfOur gp is shite ! Even if he can get an appt it's up to two hour wait for an emergency appt!

I feel helpless he's very apologetic, he feels bad he can't help with the baby and his paternity leave finish tomorrow!

Seeing the ooh has let me down do I suggest he goes to a&be seeing the temp is persistent?

Sounds like a virus. His temperature wouldn't send him to hospital, it's not so bad. When dc get higher we don't go to hospital. Nothing they can do and you don't want to spread it. I would keep him away from baby but igot be too late. Are you bf ?

It just sounds like a bug. It really doesn't sound like he needs to see anyone! He has a fever. Fevers can make you wobbly and unsteady.

He's had a fever for 12 hours. That's not really a persistent temperature. I'd be starting to worry if it was 3 days but not really before then if it's just a high temp. Get him in bed, plenty of water, some toast and keep an eye on him but give it a bit longer. I understand he's rarely ill but this really doesn't sound like something to get in a spin about.

Hang on, just re- read and confused about his temp now.

Am I right in thinking... This morning it's 38.4, he took paracetamol etc and it's still above 38? How long did you wait before re- taking? We have to monitor DS' temp closely and have to wait at least 30 minutes after meds before re- checking to see if paracetamol has worked. Sometimes it takes an hour to work.

Obviously, if you are concerned that it is something seriously or he's not improving after several days, then you need to see medical help, but if it's any consolation, my dh had EXACTLY the same virus/symptoms the week before last (without the vomiting but he wasn't hungry): fluctuating temp, the shakes, aching all over, including behind the knees! It turned in to a cough and took a full week to shake off. Hope your dh feels better soon!

It was 38.2 he took paracetamol i did it 30 mins later 38.4! He's gone to hospital as he had temp of 39 and 39.1 yesterday! His temp on arrival was 39.2
