Vomting with no cause - please help me, it's making me miserable!

I've been vomiting on and off since August. It comes in waves; I'll puke 3x a day for a few days, then it stops for a few days. Twice, it stopped for a few weeks then started again. I've kept a food diary, there is no pattern.

It comes without warning, to the point where it doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, I can and do vomit all over my own body. So, it's awkward, embarrassing and isolating because I can't eat anywhere other than near a toilet.

A gastroenterologist did a gastroscopy and biopsies and they were normal, so he assumed it was due to medication that I was on as the vomiting started at the same time as I started the meds. Anyway, he discharged me before I even had a trial period off the meds. My dr has re-referred me but the gastroscopy was clear, so does that not rule out any physiological causes?

Do you think it might be similar to this - Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome?

CMOTDibbler · 25/04/2014 18:07

I used to have CVS, until it turned into full blown migraine (with vomiting). It was absolutely miserable, and if I'd known about the link to migraine I'd have tried the migraine drugs.

If it only happens when you eat, it could be a gastric motility problem

I did wonder if it was cyclical vomiting but sometimes it's only once or twice a day and cyclical vomiting seems more severe.

My dad had this and now takes omeprazole and is cured Smile

Glad it worked for your dad but sadly, I'm on the max dose of omeprazole. (I started vomiting despite already being on it.) I do not respond to anti-sickness tablets, I just puke anyway. Sad

Did you go abroad on holiday just before last August?.

Am glad that your doctor has re-referred you; this certainly warrants further investigation to establish the exact cause.

I haven't been away for a good few years. Thanks for the help everyone. :)

I woke up early, feeling in good spirits, then I was sick and now I feel drained and sleepy again. I need to get this sorted.

My brother has something similar as he often pukes after eating. He has had lots of investigations and even had a fundoplication( top end of stomach wrapped around itself) to help cure it but to no avail . He was still puking.

He had done lots of food diaries but for some reason they did not seem to break down the content of the diet , just tallied the broad ingredients of each meal. Anyway , he then decided for himself to drastically reduce the amount of fat , all fats, in his food. So basically he ate a wholefood diet with nothing fried or with any fat added. He found it very hard going but he did not puke once on this diet.

He has since reverted to his usual diet and now accepts that he will puke if he overdoes it fatwise.

There may be a different dietary reason for you so its well worth expolring if you havent pushed it so far.

Maybe I'll try the food diary again and look for patterns? Thanks for advice!

Just bumping for any other thoughts. I am vomiting most mornings when I wake up and always after dinner but not after lunch even though the meal sizes are similar.

Somatisation?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 05/05/2014 20:35

I did wonder if it was anxiety and I have a history of MH problems, received treatment and I am now very well and happy. Life is really good, so would seem strange.

DS1 had CVS, which turned into migraine. He used to vomit upto 40 times a day for a week. IME it doesn't sound like CVS.

I don't have any other advice, but good luck.Flowers
