Smear test question

Hi, Does anyone know if the results of your smear test are still accurate if you have it done one day before your period starts? When I booked it I forgot you were supposed to book mid cycle and the receptionist didn't mention it. The nurse doing it asked when i started my last period and I said 21 days ago but my period started today on day 22. (I'm 43 and I think my cycle has got shorter as i approach the menopause.) Will they still be able to get an accurate result?

I got a letter about this recently and it just said not to book it at the same time as af as it may be difficult to get an accurate smear. So I don't think the timing of it at any other day in your cycle is important.

NHS say it should be done midcycle as it can help to collect a better sample.
If you're in doubt speak to the nurse/Dr and explain.
