"Burning Mouth Syndrome".....anyone??

My dear friend has had this for about a year. She is at her wits end with it. Almost constantly she has a really sore, painful mouth including her lips, inside and out. She also gets pins and needles pains in her lips and her mouth is really dry. She has been to the Dr, all test have come back clear. She has tried thrush medication, anti biotics, changing her toothpaste. The only relief she gets is from sucking on an ice. Has anyone else had this? If so have you any advice..she would be so grateful!

Not me, but my Nan has had this for many years. She stopped eating a lot of foods as they were causing her symptoms. I think over time it has improved as she complains less about it these days. A very frustrating condition.

My friend has it and is seeing a naturopath who has her on a candida diet, pretty tough going, very bland - nothing acidic, no dairy, the list of what she can't eat is pretty long, it seems to be helping though. May be worth looking into.

Thanks Spring and Sleep, reassuring to hear that others have it, I think my friend feels really alone. She is now seeing an accupuncturist (who I can vouch for, she is amazing) and is trying out some of her suggestions for lifestyle changes such as diet etc. Thanks again.

I have this although it hasn't been so and recently. I was referred to the dental hospital and they said that they can prescribe medication. I have decided against it for now but I think it was something like gabapentin and/ or certain anti depressants. May be worth her asking for a referral.

Could it be oral allergy syndrome ?

I was going to suggest OAS too. I get it with apples, really sore. Hayfever tablets help as it's a crossover from birch pollen allergy. Such a shame as I love apples!

Geographical tongue? My DD2 has this we have to cut out chocolate ice cream tomatoes citrus fruit and nothing salty
