Cough that's lasted about 6 weeks.

Is it worth going to the GP? I've had a cough for about 6 weeks. When it first started I had a couple of nights where I coughed pretty much non stop for up to 3 hours. I also had quite a lot of chest pain. It's not nearly so bad now, but I still occasionally feel like I'm coughing so much I might vomit and I'm still coughing a fair bit throughout the day. Chest pain has largely stopped.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing sinister as my dh started coughing about a week before me and continued to cough for a few weeks. However, I'm fed up of it now and I want it to stop. If I went to the GP is there anything they could do? Or as it's obviously on the mend, would they most likely tell me to wait it out?

Yes - go to the GP. Advice is to visit with any cough that lasts more than 3 weeks.
I hope it clears up soon.

Go to the GP. DH was given an inhaler for a similar cough, I had antibiotics (although i do have asthma too). Both fine within a week or so but it wouldn't have gone away on its own in either case.

I have had it for 3 1/2 weeks. I went to the GP about a week ago and they said my chest was clear Shock and that there's a particularly nasty cough doing the rounds and it can last up to 6 weeks.

I cough so much I feel like vomiting and god knows what it's doing to my pelvic floor! It's exhausting and draining isn't it?

If I was you I'd go get it checked out now it's been so long though.

Hi, I have a cough that came on after I had a virus. My husband made me go to the doctors after he got fed up of me coughing in his face during "sexy time". I went to the docs, I have had the cough for 5 weeks and he has given me an inhaler. It's slowly getting better. He reckons I have a case of mild asthma which is why it is taking longer for it to clear.

Go docs and see if you can get one x

Needless to say it's probably why we haven't conceived this month!!

Consider whooping cough if it's lasted weeks. It can only be diagnosed with a blood test. My GP thought it couldn't be because my chest was clear and I wasn't even coughing in the surgery but I knew it was and was proved right.
