Blocked nose has been going on for about 2 weeks - thought it was the Saharan desert thing but no I'm still all blocked up - am taking cold & flu medicine and hayfever stuff just in case. I've destroyed a rainforest in tissues. Taking steamy baths and showers. Olbas oil has been liberally sprinkled everywhere. Please please tell me that someone has found a cure...

You may have sinusitis, that usually goes on for weeks

Have you tried nasal irrigation?

That sounds like some kind of medieval torture!! But if it'll work... what do I have to do??

I have this too. Being 13 weeks pregnant, I can't take anything other than paracetamol. I went to the doctor on Friday and he gave DS penicillin because he's been really bad too. DS seems much better now but I'm still absolutely shattered and constantly blowing my nose. If it was sinusitis would they be able to prescribe anything I wonder?

try some antihistamines, non drowsy one. and you can get nasal irrigation packs in boots. Its a bottle and sachets of salts to mix with lukewarm water so its not like getting swimming pool water up your nose.

I had this for 6 months, even antibiotics didn't help. But the antihistamines reduced the production of gunk and the nasal irrigation cleared everything out, but you have to do it regularly.

I had a cold for 12 weeks - couldn't get rid of the runny nose and sneezing. Went to the GP about Something else and he prescribed a nasal spray which has done the trick

it basically squeezes the fluid up your nose, cleares out all the sinus and should flow out the other nostril and out your mouth. don;t squeese the bottle too hard. And if you can, short the last listtle bit out.

Afterwards blow your nose gently.

the first time I did it was almost like squeezing a spot, lots of greeny brown bits of gunk came out that had been stuck up there from the infection.

' short the last listtle bit out' should say 'Snort the last little bit up'

6 months??? I truly would have destroyed a forest - I have gone through 4 boxes of tissues this weekend alone.
Will look into nasal irrigation (unconvinced but desperate) and possibly dr for antibiotics

You can make the solution up yourself if you have sea salt at home. Put a teaspoon of sea salt in a cup of boiled cooled water. Snort it up your nose whilst holding the other nostril closed. Your nose should unblock immediately. Give it a go!
