Is there a dentist or dental nurse who can put my mind at rest.

I took my DS for a check up yesterday and the dentist said "ok his filling has fallen out which she put in about 6 mths ago !! so we wasn't happy with that. Then she said ok goodbye make an appointment for the filling also to see the hygienist.
Ok I said are you not going clean his teeth or put that 'blue stuff' on ?
"no the hygienist does that" so I thought we went into another room to have this done ( because thats what my other DS has at his dentist) cleaned then and there. So I was a little bit shocked when the receptionist said come in 3 weeks for the filling and 4 for the hygienist!! Needless to say I got home and my DH said they are ripping us all off the tax payer etc.
Whats the score ? is it true the more times you visit the more it cost the NHS? Ive not been to the dentist for over a year I'm terrified.

you normally have a check up and then any further treatment is done at a later date as check ups have limited time and there will be other bookings for dental treatments that day. They cant leave open spaces 'just in case' you need further treatment. Sounds normal to me

ilovepowerhoop · 10/04/2014 11:47

whats the 'blue stuff?'

MrsCakesPremonition · 10/04/2014 11:48

Sounds normal to me. Why are you terrified?

Thanks for getting back so quick.

Blue stuff Its like tooth paste his dental nurse says leave it on for ! hour and don't eat anything.

I understand the treatment but why didn't she clean them ? We were in and out within 10 minutes never use to be like that.

at our dentist you have to make a separate appointment for cleaning as well so thats normal here too

ilovepowerhoop · 10/04/2014 11:56

sounds like fluoride paint (the blue stuff)

Msbluebozooka · 10/04/2014 12:02

no I'm not a dentist but ds has had fluoride paint on his molars as he doesnt have good enamel on his back teeth

Megbeth · 10/04/2014 13:21

They do do something called Fissure seal. They paint on a liquid & set it with a light. Was that what you mean?

ilovepowerhoop · 10/04/2014 13:24

fissure sealant wouldnt be done regularly though. Fluoride painting can be done several times a year.

Msbluebozooka · 10/04/2014 14:55

Thanks for all this info thats interesting ilove the fluoride paste, I think my ds has weak enamel he also has a permanent white spot on his front tooth. My oldest is fine not one filling and perfect nashers so the dentist said
I will ask her about that next time.

The more times you visit, the more it costs your dentist. He will get a fixed sum from the NHS so there's no ripping off going on. You sound delightful.

Msbluebozooka · 10/04/2014 18:53

Whats with you morton! thats the reason i was asking. Why oh why do some people just love a quarrel? and ps I am delightful or so people tell me.

Oh your wrong about that I just found to-day.

Excellent. MRDA, first time I've seen it in real life on MN.

Grin cherry popped today.

Your posts barely make sense OP but I think I can infer that you do believe your dentist is ripping someone off. Please tell us some more so we can either confirm he is or reassure you he isn't. Unless you're not actually bothered which I suspect is the case

Msbluebozooka · 10/04/2014 20:57

Oh dear Mrsmorton delighted you care at least someone does x
