Pain in neck and rash

I started with a rash on my arms torso and face last Monday not particularly itchy. Feeling generally unwell. On Tues when symptoms had increased I visited the Dr who thought it was an allergic reaction to something. By this point I was getting joint pain in my left wrist and hand and the rash was itchy. I was prescribed 30mg steroid and antihistamine. I went for a review the next day and the doctor said to continue with medication. I have felt absolutely exhausted for over a week, with small bursts of activity. The joint pain had disappeared until about an hour ago when the pain in my joints in my arm hand shoulder and back of my neck became quite intense. I can barely move my neck. I took my last dose of steroid yesterday morning. I still have the rash but not as bad, its particularly noticeable on my face. I don't know what to do with myself, I live alone with my 2 daughters 12 and 15. I was planning to go back to the Dr tomorrow, she mentioned blood tests and xrays if I didn't get better. What could it be? Should I try to see someone earlier? Could I take paracetamol?

Shingles ???

MoreBeta · 06/04/2014 21:20

This could be meningitis.

Your symptoms sound very familiar. Pain in limbs, stiff neck, rash. Do you have a temperature?

You need to go to AE if this gets ANY worse.

Slapped cheek virus? I felt awful and had very swollen/painful joints.

Just seen the out of hours doctor. Gave me a very thorough check. He doesn't think the rash and joint pain are necessarily connected. He's given me more steroids and co codamol. Told me to see my GP and expect blood tests. He mentioned arthritis? Thank you for your replies.

arthritis and a rash are very common

Boris13 · 06/04/2014 22:18

Especially after feeling unwell

I would think of slapped cheek too. Any sore throat or temperature? Scarlet fever is doing the rounds too. Too widespread for shingles. Trouble with these things is they can be a multitude of things and diagnosis is often very tricky.

No temperature or sore throat. The GP ruled out scarlet fever. Thanks again for your replies.

Well the GP thinks it may be reactive arthritis, blood tests tomorrow.
