took him to A&E as it had grazed the skin (seemed otherwise OK). doc saw him and said he thought he was Ok but just to keep close eye on him. this happened at 2pm yesterday and he's been totally normal ever since. can I step down from red alert a bit now or is there still a chance something could happen (ie. blood clot)??? thanks, D

DD did this the day before yesterday and the advice I had (from here of course) was to watch them for 24 hours although someone did say their ds had had bumps come up a couple of days after and had a fratured skill . With dd I am bearing it in mind but have stepped down from red alert !

ta, Wheelybug. his bump came up straight away (a good thing, I believe...?)

hope your dd better now!

When Dd threw herself from change table I was told to keep on alert over night and then for 24 hours after (so all in all about 36 ish hours). We had to 'rouse' her every hour to check she wasn't too deeply asleep. If he's been fine and had a good night last night I'd say you were ok to go to an amber alert! Could you ring NHS direct to check and put your mind at rest? Or speak to a nurse at local a&E?

dinny · 17/08/2006 21:56

gawd, NHS Direct likely to do the opposite

am thinking amber alert is OK. especially as he has been eating like a horse. though he didn't have an X-ray at A&E..... would I know if he'd fractured his skull?!!

Sounds like he had a bit of a nasty bump and you had a bit of a scare! Poor loves - big hugs to both of you!

If he seems ok then you could just lower the alert to amber or lemon - tell him to be careful next time!

wheelybug · 17/08/2006 22:00

here's my thread - Gengis's explains her ds's fractured skull better than me ! I think you can probably start to relax - its horrid when it happens though isn't it.

God, ds does have a lump but it was prodded by paed in A&E. suppose I just check that it has gone (it's on back of head and he has SUCH a thick bouffant o hair it's really hard to feel).

yes I think just see if it goes down after a bit and if it was prodded by a doc, you'd hope they'd know !
