Endometrial ablation

Have been told by consultant that endometrial ablation is the next step for me ( I refused the coil) due to dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Can anyone tell me if it's worth having done & what the after affects are please?

would be interested in your replies as this is something that has been suggested to me. I have the coil but so far not so good (have been told to give it another couple of months). However I wonder how effective it'll be as I don't have a thick womb lining (about 2mm at last scan).

Gave me my life back!
Months of flooding, almost constant bleeding, fatigue, stress etc. One simple procedure, a weekend taking it easy and hey presto! A year later and all still well.

Yes go for it,one of the best things I've ever done,occasionally get a couple of days of spotting but that's it ,I used to flood and feel so drained .i had a week off work as have a physical job ,did have a discharge for a couple of weeks but well worth it .

I am also thinking of having this done. But does it relieve period pain, or do you still get cramps?

No cramping for me still get a bit pmt though .

No relief in pain for me I'm sorry to say Frankie. But that was not my issue personally, so it was useful for me.

I feel exactly likewish. I had it done with a spinal last August and had about two weeks of discharge and nothing since. Still get some tenderness and discomfort but nothing like as much as I used to and am so glad I had it done.

The doctor was really trying to push the coil, but the consultant is all for this procedure. Sounds like it's the best option.
Did you find you were able to carry on as normal afterwards? I have two DCs & one is a baby so would like to be back to normal as soon as possible.

I had a spinal and was pretty much up and about the next day - I was quite gentle on myself for a couple of days but certainly able to get on with normal family life.

My DCs are older but I was pretty much back to normal within a couple of days, if a bit tired for another couple.

I had a Mirena and didn't get on with it, so had an ablation in September 2012.

I still get periods (I was hoping I wouldn't!) but they are much lighter, shorter and less painful.

I had it under GA and had 4 days off work (physical job) but was looking after my 3 children the day after (am a single parent) and driving after 2 days.

Recovery sounds really straight forward. Sounds like it's had a really positive outcome for you ladies.

My recovery wasn't straight forward but it still gave me back my life and absolutely worth it!

It was 3 weeks before I felt 100% again but that was in part due to the antibiotics I had to take as I got an infection in my keyhole wound as I had my tubes clipped at the same time as the ablation. I was in so much pain after I ended up staying in 2 nights as needed morphine drip etc.

Like I said worse case scenario really but still worth it 3.5 years on.
