how do you examine your breasts? how do you know if a lump is normal, its new etc?? do all lumps feel the same? what do I look out for? I have been referred to the breast clinic many times over the years and apart from when I had enlarged lymph nodes under my arm (quite a scare!) I am always told I have extremely lumpy breasts and thankfully all turned out good. I don't examine my breasts as often as I should because it puts the fear of god into me because its all bumps and lumps and I can't tell if those lumps are always there or not. The doctor said you will know but I don't..how??

I don't know OP but am in similar situation. A couple of scares and referrals but thankfully it's just been because of my natural lumpiness. Hopefully someone wiser will be along in a minute to tell us!

It is hard, I have breast cancer and both the gp and consultant weren't sure till I had the mammogram, even they can't tell by touch. I could feel it with the flat of my hand whereas other lumps I have I couldn't.

Malteserzz...so sorry to hear that I wish you good health...with me even when I feel with the flat of my hand I can still feel bumps and lumps
Enid..its hard to know isn't it hoping someone can tell us then! I've only read about people who appear to have smooth breasts and felt the lump straight away so I really don't have a clue how to tell and don't want to be running to the doctor all the time
