Shampoos that don't contain SLS - Sodium laurel Sulphate ??

Hi

For years I had been suffering from really bad bouts of mouth ulcers - and over the last 6 months I have changed my toothpaste to one that doesn't contain SLS.... and my mouth ulcers have almost all disappeared.

I am wondering as I also suffer from bad hair - relly dry flaky itchy scalp, breaking hair etc etc whether I would benefit from trying to find a shampoo also that doesn't contain these ingredients..

Can anybody recommend a good shampoo without these ingredients that is readily available on the High Street ??

I think tresemme naturals or aubrey organics are what you need. I use the tresemme stuff and it's very good and not pricey.

The Naked range is available in Boots, and at least some, possibly all, of the shampoos don't contain SLS.

Aveda products are amazing. Expensive but can last for a very long time as you don't need as much.

The 'Naked' range are, I get mine from Boots. £4 approx.

I heard the green Loreal Elvive is as well.

I've recently started using timotei pure, not sure about sulphates but it's parable and silicone free and makes my hair really nice and soft.

The Body Shop Rainforest ones are SLS free (I love the moisturising one) and Timotei do a SLS free one as well.

They seem to be getting more common now, and better with the labelling, as are silicone free products. I love it!

Is this the same stuff you should be using for the Curly Girl method, does anyone know?

Sulphate and silicone free are definitely recommended for curly hair. Sulphates are too harsh and silicone is essentially like coating your hair in plastic so eventually your hair can't absorb moisture. Bodyshop Rainforest range has been recommended to me by my hairdresser ( who specialises in curly hair). No more frizz ease!

Pureology are SLS free. It seems expensive but you need such a tiny amount that a bottle lasts 6 months....

I have cystic acne on my back, which I have read can be aggravated by sulfates in shampoos. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. The acne appears only on my back. The affected area is like a wide strip between my shoulder blades and down my back- and stops where my hair stops. In other words, the acne occurs EXACTLY where my hair lies on my back when I am washing it.

I have been using the sulfate-free L'Oreal one- purely because it is the only one I can find in my local supermarket. Glad to have read the recommendations above and will head to the Body Shop and Boots to buy some of these other ones.

Since I've been using the sulfate-free shampoo, My bacne is much improved. I still get the occasional isolated spot, but it's nowhere near as bad as it once was.

Waitrose stock quite a few sulfate free brands ( they have more choice than my local Boots). I've tried a few, but am now happily using Pureology Super Smooth, it's available on Amazon and most of the beauty websites. It isn't cheap, but it is by far the best I have tried and it does last for ages.

Must admit previously that I was a little whoooo of all this allergy stuff - but since I have changed toothpaste stuff and my mouth ulcers just disappearing, I am thinking a little harder on what I things use on my head and face..... especially as my hair/head is suffering as well.

Strangely, today my face has now started erupting and is very very itchy and the only thing that I can think that I have eaten is dried Italian meats - which I can only think is the sulphates (maybe) that are used within the drying meat process... I maybe wrong but ....

I hate the head/hair thing - as it is very anti-social to keep wanting to scratch your hair all the time and the fact that it seems like I am living in a constant "Snow Globe". My hair then starts to break near the roots and you then you look like a Tufty Club member !!!

OP you may have sebhorreic dermatitis. I have this, and have skin by my nose and eyebrows that can be flakey, red, and itchy/sore. I have to use a steroid ointment on my face. I also have it on my scalp, but since starting the curly girl
method (silicone and sulphate free), it seems much better. I am also spending more time massaging/scrubbing my scalp when washing my hair.

Liz Earle and.Faith in Nature products don't contain parabens or sls. They are also cruelty free.

Aveda is cheapest on lookfantastic.com.

Aveda has a whole load of chemicals in, check ingredients carefully. They also make my scalp itchy/flaky. I have a mega bottle I cannot use. :(

Try Holland and Barratt or your local health food/natural products shop.

Aveeda doesn't have SLS though.... It is a particular irritant...

I wash my daughters hair in Aveeda. They suffer from eczema, but they are fine with Aveeda hair products. Didnt want to waste time trying different products and hoped that avoiding SLS would work.

The Body Shop do a really nice sls-free range.

L'oreal and a few other big brands that I can't remember do them too.

I sometimes use them- not for health reasons, but because I get a build up of gunk on my fine, thin hair that makes it look lank and greasy. I think it must be the silicone in some brands of shampoo and conditioner, as I don't use any other products in my hair...
