Reassurance needed about Mirena please..

Hi,
I'm having one fitted next week. Been talked into it by GP, as I'm getting too old for the pill. Also I have endo so she said the mirena is ideal for me.
I'm not too worried about the fitting of it (much) but I'm worried I'm going to be in horrible pain for months after - have done too much googling.
Any reassuring stories that I'm being a big wuss?

I'm on my second Mirena now. First one was fine with hardly any bleeding although insertion was painful. Second one I had put in at a family planning clinic which was much better - had it put in in December and didn't get any pain at all. And no periods again either :)

Mine was fitted under GA so I can't comment on insertion.

I did find it very uncomfortable for the first three weeks, but that might be because I had a D&C during the same operation in which the Mirena was put in, so I guess it was normal to be a bit sore after that.

After the first three weeks it all settled down & the best thing is I've had no periods other than the occasional bit of spotting for over three years

I was very happy recently when my GP told me that because I was over 45 when it went in it can be left there for eight years, so it'll see me through the menopause.

I've had mine for 9 months now , no problem with the insertion and no pain since ,however I'm still having irregular bleeding and discharge .I am giving it a year and then I will consider my options as I'd rather be on the pill than carry on like this TBH.

I will have had mine two years in April. They generally don't give them to people my age (23) but nothing else worked.

Pros:
-no bleeding, spotting maybe once every 5 months
-lost most of the weight I gained with the implant pretty fast
-crazy hormonal bitch disappeared

Cons:
-umm.. I can't think of one! A little sore during sex?
And for two or three days after insertion.

Thanks. I started to worry when the nurse told me to have ibuprofen an hour before ( fine) but also to make sure I have lunch beforehand? - it's being fitted mid afternoon. I didn't ask the reason for that but am assuming its because I won't feel like eating afterwards

I think it might be to stop you fainting. It hurt me quite a lot going in, but I think I'm in the minority.

Definitely eat, I didn't and DP found me head between knees on the doorstep

I had my Mirena fitted yesterday! I have to give it a try as the next step for me ablation and the Mirena seemed the less invasive route.

I didn't take any painkillers before hand and yes it was a bit painful & crampy, but fine. I spent the day on sofa and took painkillers had hot water bottle and it was like a painful period pain for most of the day. I bled a little bit.

This morning have woken up and I am pain free with no bleeding (although sure this will change)

Probably as it is better to take ibuprofen on full stomach.
My fitting was pretty painful but was much better once i walked out of the room and then nothing more than a mild period pain that day and since then nothing much at all, occ cramp and a bit of spotting maybe once every 6-8 weeks but otherwise is fab. Go for it.
