I'm terrified it's cancer

Please forgive my rambling, I'm sobbing and tired.

I need you to talk me through this and calm me down.

I have to have a hysteroscopy, due to the fact I've been bleeding for most of the past two years I saw a gyne on Tuesday and he took a smear and a biopsy. Periods are heavy, painful and never ending.

Now I'm terrified I have cancer, I have a young family and can't leave them, I can't be ill!!

Sorry to hear this waiting for tests and results is horrid and you can't help thinking about the worst case scenario. I imagine there are lots of things it could be rather than cancer

I started having mid cycle bleeding at the end of last year. I also had a hysterocopy. Long story short, it was fibroids. I do not have cancer. They were removed and a coil fitted. 2 months later I'm still bleeding but that's another story but I know it's not serious. Like you I was very worried but there's loads of reasons for abnormal bleeding, mostly not serious. Womb cancer is very rare in premenopausal women btw. No point in me telling you not to worry but I would urge you not to Google as it causes unnecessary extra worry. The important thing is you are getting it sorted. Good luckx

I can't get death out of my head, I know it's irrational, but I can't stop thinking of my kids without me.

Odds are you don't, but even if you did - its one of the most treatable of all cancers and odds would be you'd be around to annoy your kids well into old age

I knew someone whose specialism was endometrial cancer, and she'd never lost a patient.

I started a near identical thread about a month ago (have nc since). Different symptoms but same situation. Had very heavy periods, was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound, found one small cyst and one small fibroid (nothing to worry about) but apparently my cervix is abnormally thickened. GP could give no explanation other than cc, so i came away in pieces, googling made it worse. Have been referred for a hysteroscopy, appointment in a couple of weeks.

Like you, my thoughts have been very morbid, and also keep breaking down over the thought of leaving my ds. The thing is, these are only thoughts - they are not the reality of the situation. The facts are, like everyone has said, is that there are many things that could be causing your symptoms, and even if it was something serious it is eminently treatable.

I don't know if this may be of interest, but i also suffer with general anxiety disorder, and use mindfulness techniques to deal with the anxiety. It has helped me immeasurably in the last few weeks, and while it took a little while to get things back under control, i am able to go about my days without being terrified that i may be doing everything for the last time while waiting for my appointment. The facts for me are that i had a clear smear not long before and the tv scan didn't find anything else. I will deal with any new facts when i get them. If you think it may help you to deal with the worry while you wait for a diagnosis this website is a good place to start.

Btw i have since discovered, thanks to a kind lady on here, that my symptom may simply be due to genetic variation, so there are other explanations, even though they weren't available to me at the time. Hope that helps a bit.
