root canal -- what should I ask?

I'm having a root canal tomorrow. I've never had one. I'm having it on the NHS so I'm concerned that I won't be offered things that I won't think to ask for. For examply, material of crown. Has anyone had a root canal? Did you have a crown? What kind? And what does the NHS typically offer?

Any experience/advice welcome!

how did it go!

Wasn't too bad. Have big nasty filling in the tooth now. I have 3 months to save up for my very expensive crown. £300... yikes. Oh well, just have to grin and bear it.

Glad it was OK for you Uwila.

Glad the appointment went ok Uwila. What I thought was a gum infection has turned out to be that the tooth above (a bottom front one) has died so I've got to have it root filled . So far I had it drained and disinfected and got to go back in a few weeks time for the filling. Anyone know if I'm likely to feel rough now the pus is out ?
