I smell smoke

Periodically I can smell smoke, very distinctive smoke. I live and work in a smoke free environment. It can last from a few hours to several days and then disappears for months. It's unpleasant and somewhat disconcerting.

Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?

Yes, when I was pregnant Wink

Sinus infection perhaps?

You should get it checked out. It could be a form of epilepsy or stroke warnings. It's not normal that it comes & goes.

Thanks - it felt like a stupid thing to go the GP with but I think I'll check it out. Sydenham, 3dc and NOT counting anymore :)

Yes, and sometimes my fingertips smell of tobacco! Confused

Also a non smoker, in a non smoking home.

It's called phantosmia. I get this when I have a cold. The GP said something about smell receptors being damaged.

Quinteszilla · 20/02/2014 09:11

I dont get it when I have a cold, but my receptors are damaged. I spent 6 months without sense of smell (and food tasted VERY bland) when I was 18/19.

BardOfBarking · 20/02/2014 17:12

Is phantosmia always smoke - or general 'phantom' smells? Guess I could google that.
