Rectal bleeding? Any advice appreciated!

Hi all
Well as the title says I've had rectal bleeding a few months back and was refered to see a gi consultant. The bleeding stopped but went anyway (just over a wk ago) and he did an endoscopy (anal) and he said all was fine. No piles, nothing unusual he could see. Fab! So decided must be food intolerances causing the problems I've had (bloated stomach, constipation, etc) so have been gluten free for the last week.
.....however, the last two days the bleeding has started again. Sorry for tmi but bright red blood and enough to make the toilet look pretty bad!
I've rang the dr and he's calling me tomorrow but just don't know what's going on!? Thought it was all sorted :(
I do take meds for my arthritis (lodine and methotrexate). I'm 36 and feel like a bloody old lady!!
Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you have a full colonoscopy or did they just look at your rectum? If you've not had a full colonoscopy then please press the doctor to refer you for one. It's better to get it properly checked out. Red blood is usually a good sign, even though it seems scary. Also, like with periods, there's probably not as much blood as it looks like, so try not to panic, easier said than done I know!

Thanks RunRun, I'm not sure think it was. It was very uncomfortable and they seemed to look quite far in (I could see the tv screen!) and I thought he was heading for my throat lol! I'm not massively panicky as in I'm not thinking life threatening. I'm just concerned my anti inflammatries are causing the bleeding and I'm worried about having to stop them :(

If you've had a clear colonoscopy (sounds like it was if they went quite far in) then that's really promising.

Do you have any pain when going to the bathroom? If you've had constipation, do you think you could have an anal fissure? Or if you're straining a lot that might cause some bleeding. I'm not in any way medically qualified, just unfortunately have far too much knowledge of bowels!

Hopefully your GP will be able to shed some light when you speak to him tomorrow :)

Hi RunRun no I'm not constipated at the minute and no pain. Would an anal fissure have not shown up when I had the endoscopy though?

I'm not sure. I don't think it would've shown on the camera as it would be right at the opening, but they may have noticed when they were inserting the camera. Then again they wouldn't be looking for external problems so might not have looked closely or might not have been able to see as the room is often quite dark. They are quite painful though so I think you'd probably know if it was a fissure, especially if it was bleeding a lot.

Am off to bed now so good luck with the GP tomorrow Flowers
