Having one shortly. Anyone have any advice - I want my DCs to come and see me but will I be pretty out of it the day of the op? Is there a lot of post op pain? Dreading the thought of a week in hospital.

It is unlikely that you will be in for a week, I was in for 3 nights, turfed out before the weekend. I was first one on the days list and was seen at maybe 830, I was certainly well enough to wolf down some lunch, so you should be fine to see the dcs. There isn't a great deal of pain. My incision site was a bit tender, but I can't say that I have any memories of pain, and I am a terrible cowardy custard on that front. If like me you are wedded to your phone then look at getting a portable battery like the Anker ones you can see on Amazon to keep your phone charged. I took a small radio and headphones too. There is a great website, Bonesmart, which has a forum for pre and post op patients full of good advice. Something that is rarely mentioned but which for me was quite distressing: constipation! Doubtless caused by the pain meds. Take some stool softeners or senna or some such with you.
For me the op was a great success. I am pain free after years of discomfort and stiffness. You will be fine.
