delaying a period

not sure if this is the right place to post but wanted to see if anyone has used the drug norethisterone (I think) to delay their period and how it was. i am a bit scared as it sounds horribly unnatural but i have an INCREDIBLY important trip at work in a week's time which involves masses of travel, lots of presenting, spending days in constant meetings (mostly presenting or in very involved talks) and my periods are completely debilitating and incredibly heavy - it is a disaster waiting to happen. Has anyone tried it and how was it? have an appt tomorrow to talk to doctor about it but it seems there is only one way to delay it, which is this one? many thanks for any tips

I've taken it. I still got the breast tenderness, bloating and PMT, but no bleed.

It worked for what I needed, but I'm not keen to repeat the experience so I'm planning on getting a mirena coil.

A friend took it. It delayed her period but her next one lasted weeks and she ended up in hospital, having collapsed in the chemist, needing 4 transfusions of blood.
She won't be using it again!

I've taken it several times for holidays etc over the years - sore breasts and a bit moodier but otherwise, fine and I would recommend it!

I used this in the last month for the first time, didn't really experience any side effects and wish I had come across it many years ago.

I would speak to your GP tomorrow about this drug treatment.

If your periods are so debilitating and heavy you really ought to ask for a referral to a gynae at the same time to establish the actual cause. Fibroids and/or endometriosis can both cause heavy bleeding to arise.

You do not have to put up with this, you need to know why this is happening.

I take cezarette & don't have any periods at all

How about transexemic acid tablets? I took them before the coil and they stopped my period substantially

autumnsmum · 28/01/2014 20:06

I've used it and had no problems
