hardcore teething medication - nurofen the best???

ds cutting his final premolar and is really struggling. buckets of drool, awake in the night, waking early from naps, vomitting, screaming, ...

was using calpol but it appeared not to help much. switched to nurofen last night and he did sleep for a few hours.

what do you do? double whammy and go for both?

anyone (gasp) use medised???

You can use Nurofen and calpol together but check with the pharmacist about doses.

Is your little one using a dummy? We used to put some of the sugar-free teething gel on his dummy and that way, it got to the back of his mouth. It seemed to work for us.

Oh, God, use Nurofen and Medised if he's having that much trouble - I maintain that a well-rested baby is better able to cope with pain and cutting teeth can be SO painful for them.

Poor little chap - hope it's through soon - the molars are a bugger

I found that camomile teething granules were pretty good plus calpol and Bonjela!. Oil of cloves is very also good but not sure if this if would be okay for a young child unless you can get yoru finger right in the mouth without touching the tongue.

dd was a nightmare teether, ds the exact opposite!

if we get a repeat of last night i'm going in for the kill - medised + nurofen + gel on the dummy

tr - it's a paracetomol medicine but with a mild sedative. a bit controversial as it has been suggested that mums may use it a little freely at times

wish I'd known about it when dd2 got her first molars, neither she or I slept for 2 days almost straight
I was using nurofen and calpol and teething gel, I spent alot of the time in tears, poor dd2 it was horrid

I imagine it's tricky to get to the back of the mouth, but anbesol liquid is, ime, miles better than the gels. (But would definitely go for a nurofen/medised combo. DS was given a dose of nurofen then calpol straight after by a nurse once, so it must be OK.)

oh dear - put him down at 7:15 and can hear him roaming his cot, unsettled. this despite large doses of both medised and nurofen 45 mins ago . really can't take another night like last night...

try anbesol liquid (for adults but fine for babies too) dab on your finger and rub on affected area, it really does numb and hopefully for long enough for him to settle, x

So glad its not just me considering that a baby up all night is in a far worse state than one who gets medisad!

DS (16 mo) is cutting a really awful back molar, he's been clingy, miserable, red cheeked and crying for two days now and its still not through just a big red lump!

I've just gone up to him again,(9pm) went to sleep at 7pm; 3rd dose of medisad was at 5.30pm. Will give nurefen and medisad if he wakes up again in the night.

oh the joys of teething. don't forget the red raw bum cheeks too; along with the drool, snotty nose, waking, crying, clinging, sobbing, slapped cheek look and HIDEOUSSSSSSSSSS nappies.

i've invested in all three; calpol, nurofen and medised. Plus Calgel - kept in the fridge.

no one warns you about teething!

Last night he woke again at 1.20am, cue hysterical screaming until 4am when he finally got hypnotised by his globe light (weird I know) and fell asleep, he woke up again at 5am, then slept 6am - 9.20am.
Unfortuantly I had to go to work so no sleep for me!

I have to say this was the worst yet, nothing i did seemed to help, cuddles, iboprofen, medisad, teething gel, change nappy, juice, liying down quietly next to him, reading a story, taking him into my bed it was bloody awful!!

oh riab sorry you're going through this now .

if it's any consolation (i'm the OP) the worst only lasted a couple of days - once the tooth had broken through things got much better.

hope he's feeling happier soon.

SpikeMomma, please don't give Calpol and Medised together - you probably know this but it's not clear from your post - both contain paracetamol.
