Bright red blood when having a poo - scared.

Yesterday when I wiped after going to the loo there was bright red blood on the toilet paper. It freaked me out - I am not constipated, in fact it was quite loose. My bum did sting a bit later in the shower when I washed so maybe there is a small cut or something (bit difficult to see myself and certainly not going to ask DH to look!).

Today my tummy feels a bit crampy but I'm not sure if that cd just be anxiety as I am a proper worrier. I will see my dr to get it checked but can anyone reassure me in the meantime?

Most likely to be a fissure, especially if stinging. I would keep an eye and if it continues, go to GP.

I have heard that the brighter it is, the nearer the outside of the body it is. Which is better.
So could perhaps be eg piles?

I promise you that bright red blood in the toilet paper is a classic sign of piles, but do go to the dr to get it checked out so that your mind is put at rest. You'll be in and out in 5 mins and can then stop worrying!

Sounds like a fissure or piles to me. Keep an eye on any pain as you may need topical medicine to sort it.

Thanks everyone. Feeling a little calmer and had no more 'episodes'. Will make an appt to see my Dr this week.

Bright red blood on the paper is much less worrying than darker blood mixed in, if that helps you feel better.

I had this a week or two ago and after the initial OMG moment when I calmed down I remembered I had been struggling to "go" (iron tablets thank you!) and nipped in the chemist for cream and dulcolax tablets. The joys of being an adult! Anyway that seemed to solve the problem!
in the absence of any obvious cause for you see your doctor but try not to worry too much

prob internal piles/fissure - be reassured!

isitme1 · 26/01/2014 14:53

Like all have said the redder it is the better I suppose. Its most likely from a cut as it stung you.
My ds has the black blood mixed with his poo which is more serious as its coming from higher up.
Drs told me red is most likely from a cut near anus so dont worry yourself too much
