how do I help? Not going into detail here of course just in case, but basically got a 'help me' this morning and am assisting with what needed to be taken care of today.

Had no idea my friend had been struggling with alcohol, and have no problem with it either as obvioulsy generally 'keeping it together' and also not in denial. Was just surprised. ATM symptoms are shakes and stomach cramps. What can I do to help?

does she want to quit? Has she asked you for help with giving up alcohol? How open are you able to be with each other?

Call Alcholics Anonymous or Al-Anon and see if they have someone who can help. Call her/your GP for physical symptoms.

monkey, I had no idea that my friend had a drinking problem! And until now my friend had felt to embarrassed to talk to me about it. Maybe that's the first step to an open talk? I have a colleague who defo drinks too much and with him I can tell as I can smell the alcohol on him as soon as he walks into the office. Never noticed that with my friend. Also my father is a latent alcoholic and my friend has never displayed any of the symptoms/characteristics I'd notice with my father.

My friend hasn't per se asked for my help to give up drinking but told me it's been well over a year since the last 'episode'... though probably the 'help me' this morning could be construed as a help me to give up?
