Not interested in pros or cons, just if having it, is their an optimum month? ie not always/less successful before x months? Thanks.

No science to this - just my opinion:
I think I waited until ds was 18m to 2yrs & for a time when he had no colds or other illnesses to make it harder to contend with the MMR dose.

DD is 18m & haven't organised her MMR yet but will soon I think - before we get into the Autumn/Winter colds cycle.

Thanks. 18 months sounds familiar. Baby 14 months now and could try and time it for Oct 1/2 term when she'll be 17 months...

IIRC, 15-18 mos. is what research shows.

Jimjams2 · 29/07/2006 20:37

15-18 months slightly more successful than earlier.

Tinker · 29/07/2006 20:43

Thanks again.

Btw,I just read that the lowest age for giving the MMR is 9 months and then it needs to be repeated at 15 months. Won't paste link as in Swedish, but lists recommended lowest age for all vaccines.

Jimjams2 · 29/07/2006 20:56

The UK and USA would recommend 9 months in the case of an epidemic. Otherwise they do not. 12 months is about the earliest age it works reasonably reliably, but slightly better success post 15 -18 months. Especially for breastfeeding mothers who had measles.

Jimjams2 · 29/07/2006 20:57

But yes 9 months always requires revaccination (well not requires, but the standard is to revaccinate if given before 12 months).

Tinker · 30/07/2006 16:12

Oh good, thanks. I'm a bfing mother who has measles.

They advise after 13 months if having the single vaccination.

DD has just started the single vaccination course aged 14 months.
