Talk to me about vitamin D injections

How low does your vitamin D have to be before they consider an injection? Is it really that much better than just taking loads of vitamin D? Is there a link between low vitamin D and osteoporosis?

I had v low vit d (7) and was not offered an injection but instead a bottle of liquid which I drank.. which was essentially just the liquid vitd you can buy online.

Thanks for your replies - did you have your vitamin D level re-tested - did it go up?

Mine went up although I've not had it tested recently. I'm now prescribed adcal for life but take the vitd drops instead as I never remember to take the adcal.

if you're going to have injections, please make sure they are D3 (cholecalciferol) and not D2 (ergocalciferol). I had an injection of D2 and my already low levels plummeted.

It's worth looking online to see if you can see a treatment protocol for your area. They usually seem to prefer high dose oral preparations now.
