Vomitting - how long to leave it to run its course ?

dd(nearly 5) started throwing up yesterday morning. Went from mid afternoon until bedtime without being sick but by then had a temperature and sicked up the Calpol and an apple, the only thing she'd eaten all day. She slept well but has already been sick twice this morning, no temperature now though and chatty, so seems a little perkier. She is happily sipping cold water and will try to get her onto Dioralyte later. How long can I wait before calling the dr if she continues to be sick ?

if it appears like a normal vomiting bug, I would probably let it run its course (so if she's not complaining of say a sore throat or sore ears). The last one we had the kids were ill for about 2-3 days so as long as she's drinking and relatively happy, I'd probably give it another day or so.

Sounds similar to the one DS has.
He was sick Monday lunchtime and had drinks but nothing to eat for the rest of the day. He had small breakfast Tues and V small lunch but then was spectacularly sick Tues PM. Nothing more until toast on Wed Lunch. He was sick twice yesterday but hasn't been sick since about 2 yesterday. Has eaten small amount last night and had breakfast today. He still has a temperature , but otherwise seems fine so far.

As long as they are getting plenty of fluids and are not dehydrated the doctors don't seem to worry until it has gone on for about a week around here.

I'd give it a couple more days

Thanks for the replies . My instinct is to leave her too but I have often felt in the past that I've left things too late so your reassurance is valuable. We only flew back from holiday on Tuesday so not sure where she's picked it up and at first I thought it was a reaction to travelling in the heat. Fortunately ds seems fine as he's off on a sleepover tonight and is so excited !

poor thing - she probably got it from the plane! Hope you don't all come down with it.

If you've been abroad, I'd probably keep a closer eye on her just in case she's picked up some horrid foreign bug (but if she's perky, I'm sure she'll be fine!)
