Thrush and ulcers in mouth - related & should I be worried?

DD nearly 4 has had a nasty run of thrush down below for several weeks. We've been given Caniston H by the doc and this seems to calm it down but not get rid of it altoghether. A few days ago she had a high temp and then a sore throat. Her mouth is full of red and white spots, like ulcers. She's in tremendous pain and eating any acidic fruit brings her to tears (only did that once by mistake ...). Doc says the 2 are not related ... it's just a virus. Red spots are appearing over her body now .. but no temperature. Could the 2 be related and should I be worried ? DD of 16 months just had her MMR - any chance she could have contracted something? Paranoid, I know!!

I'm not a medic but I would say the doctor is talking rubbish, to be honest: he hasn't investigated so how can he know? Your DD sounds very run down and that may be why she has a virus. On the other hand, painful mouth ulcers and thrush can be linked to food allergies and stomach upsets. I would get her to gargle with soluble Junior Disprol if you can, and try a homeopath if you are able, but I would also go back to the doctor if she stays poorly. Good luck.

Think I'd go back to the dr. Has she had antibitoics recently which could have triggered this and perhaps meant her immune system is lowered to other infections. Could be so many things (allergy, hand , foot and mouth etc) that I'd be pretty insistent on getting it resolved. In the meantime would a soluble paracetamol or something like bonjela ease the mouth pain?
