Bruised tailbone?

Every few weeks or so I develop bruising on my lower back, it's a light blue/grey and speckled rather than one big bruise if you know what I mean. Along with this I get pain in that area when I've been sat down for a long time (I work at a desk) and go to stand up or shift position.

I'm assuming it's my tailbone but can't think what I have done to cause it and why it keeps reoccurring. Could anyone shed any light and is it worth seeing my GP about it? I don't tend to bother doctors unless my leg is falling off!

Do you know why it is appearing? Have you knocked it? I would go see the doctor if they are unexplained, do you have any elsewhere? Unexplained bruising can be indicative of other things going on.

Not knocked it and it seems to come and go randomly. I've been recently diagnosed with mild curvature of the spine (doctor wasn't worried and X-ray didn't show anything untoward) and do sit slightly to one side naturally but didn't think that would cause that kind of damage.
