Abcess misery

I have quite a large abcess on my back which developed despite antibiotics while away from home and I had it cut and drained at 3 days ago. That procedure was mind-blowingly painful and I am terrified of having it done again. Now back home, dr says there is still pus and it may need cutting again (initial cut wasn't big enough). I was reluctant Shock and I'm on high strength anitbiotics in the hope it will resolve.

But I'm probably delaying the inevitable Sad. Anyone else had similar? I am absolutely terrified of going through that again although I think this dr would be quicker about it. Anaesthetic is useless because the tissue is infected Sad. I so wish they'd just put me out completely but that clearly isn't going to happen.

I'd ask for it to be drained and debrided under GA. DH had an abscess on his back last year that was drained at the GP and then bled uncontrollably. He had it fully drained and cauterised under GA in hospital.

It's clear they don't intend to offer me GA in fact the dr intended to do it with no LA at all. I already know LA doesn't work so I can sort of understand it - but it's like going back to the dark ages. My brain just melts thinking about it. Sad

But subjecting someone to acute, severe, planned pain is not acceptable unless it will be very transient. They could give you oramorph or entonox which would help a lot

I couldn't agree more!
