Why is my immune system so dreadful?

I seem to get every bug going and be knocked out for days on end, whereas my DH and even my toddler just shake them off. In fact, DH never seems to be ill at all.

Any ideas why or tips for improving immune system? Thanks!

Observing if you generally have stomach trouble ?? - if so that could be a reason as holistically (& I think medically too now?) the stomach is the seat of your immune system, so problems there can be a cause - if not, how well do you eat, might you be lacking in nutrition because you aren't eating it ??

If it might be your stomach, then getting that under control & then taking good pre/probiotics, such as the Viridian ones, along with omega oils & as a good aground immune boosting tonic, Spirulina is excellent stuff

No idea where "Observing" came from Confused should have read as "wondering"

Erm... I have IBS. Not sure if that counts as stomach? I am a bit nervous of "holistic" stuff but after another 2 days off work this week I am getting willing to try anything.

I do think I eat reasonably well though. I'm vegetarian and tend to eat lots of veg and fruit.

IBS is exactly what I did mean, though other ailments would fit too

We have similar immunity trouble here, DD struggles with IBS & gets every bug going, often more than once :( my immunity isn't great either, though I did get my IBS under control years ago, but have other health problems that affect immunity, so I'm probably not the best example.

I would highly recommend taking the pre/probiotics, even if your IBS is controlled, your gut flora will be out of balance & they will help sort that out - if IBS not controlled, you will need to sort that out first -

With IBS chances are even if you eat well, your gut doesn't function properly so you aren't getting the nutrition from your food & the flora that helps that will be continuously messed up - omega oils ( which you get naturally in oily fish or flax seeds etc) will help with general health & immunity further & Spirulina is packed full of vitamins, minerals etc & is very easy to digest, it has immune boosting enzymes too - its worked wonders for DD :)

Maybe post a separate IBS thread, as what helps one, doesn't always work for others, but diet changes, turmeric, blackstrap molasses have helped DD & I found the herb cats claw to be very good for myself along with diet changes etc too

Any chance you could be anaemic too ?? We are vegetarian too & know veg iron to hard to digest - that too can affect immunity - Spirulina has more easy to digest iron than liver & blackstrap molasses is a good source too,

Hmmm...I will look up this Spirulina, thanks! You are making it sound like the universal panacea! Grin

Do you exercise? The single biggest thing for me which determines whether I can shake off bugs is how well I have managed to stick to a decent work out schedule.
