Vertigo/dizzy episodes. Anyone with similar experience?

Has been going on 3-4 weeks. Been having intense vertigo lasting a few seconds (sensation of room movement), particularly when I bend over and then stand up quickly and also when I lie down in bed at night.

Happened more often at first but still happening at least once or twice a day.

I have had a nasty sore throat/cough, but that's all cleared up. Also have slight intermittent earache in one ear, but only for last 4 days or so.

Worth seeing GP?

My husband had vertigo for 4 weeks, his longest period with it. He saw a specialist who, short explanation, literally moved him from side to side very quickly to put the crystals back into their correct canals within the inner ear. No amount of medication worked for him but he came off all tablets the same day he saw doctor, slept more upright for 3 nights and has been clear since. See a doctor, from seeing my husband suffer, its dibilitating. Good luck

Hi prob a bit of labyrinthitis following your viral infection. I had this for a few weeks the first time. Worth going to the gp if only for a diagnosis and to get anti sickness medication if the vertigo is really bad. Unfortunately you just have to sort out your coping strategies eg lifting head slowly, turn over in bed gradually etc. it goes away eventually but can come back from time to time post over viruses, flying, swimming. I find its not as bad as it was....

Thanks for replies.

It's not debilitating, fortunately, as only happens a few times a day at most and only for a few seconds each time. It's just such a scary sensation.

It happened the other night in front of a friend - she thought I'd had too much to drink as I swayed and had to grab onto her when I stood up after bending down to pick something up!

Will maybe see GP next week if still happening. Just wish it would go away. I sometimes think it has, but then it happens again and takes me completely by surprise...
