D father has been prescribed Gabapentin (?spelling) for nerve pain, he lives with me so Ive read up on the side effects etc and they sound horrendous, depression, suicidal thoughts etc etc the list goes on, I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this drug? Obviously he needs the drug to help his pain but I'm just a bit concerned, TIA

Yes, have been taking it for about 20 months now. It helps my nerve pain along with a lot of other meds.

I agree the side effects do sound really scary. I haven't had any other than sleepiness sometimes.

You start very slowly, gradually building the dose and in the first few days I was quite dizzy at times. Your body does get over these effects while the drug does continue to help.

I'm taking 600mg x 3 daily.

Of course do watch for any ill effects but remember most people get more benefit than ill effects and the drug companies are obliged to print all that stuff.

HTH.

I tried Gaba for nerve pain, but had unrelenting nausea and just couldn't continue. I changed to Lyrica, and though it does have side effects it helps - but I know people taking gaba to great effect
