TMI Alert - Blood in Poo

Hi - I know what a likely reply will be (go to the doctor!) but I am just wondering if this maybe falls into the "normal" category post pregnancy/labour/delivery

So I had piles pretty bad after my delivery & stitches from an episiotomy. Recovery has been fine (I'm at 21 days since delivery). Piles have really recovered and as far as I can tell my stitches have dissolved. However, today when I opened my bowles and wiped there was what I would class as "a lot" of blood. By that I mean there was 1 clot type lump when I wiped and also the toilet water was stained fairly red. The thing is there is no real pain (I mean, it was a fairly firm stool so was slightly uncomfortable when passing but nothing out of the ordinary really).

So can anyone else say if this is normal or should I go to the doctor? I've got a sanitary towel on so will check in a short while to see if there is any blood on the towel.

Thanks MNers.

It's probably due to the piles but as you're not long after delivery, and you've had stitches etc, I'd head to see the doctor as soon as you can, just to get everything checked out.

I would get it checked.
the dr can do a sample (disgusting I know)
It's always advised see a dr if any blood.
I would def if you have had surgery recently.

I would get it checked.

However, the piles, even if you think have healed and gone could still be bleeding.

I have not had a baby recently, but have had piles, and had surgery 3 weeks ago for anal skin tag removal. On occasion, I have been quite alarmed at the amount of blood in the loo. But I do think it can look worse than it is .

If the bleeding has now stopped, then it likely was bleeding from the bowel movement, the pile or maybe a small fissure?

No harm in visitng the GP for a check out though.
