When to visit doc with horrible cough

Hello really need advice please .i have had a horrible cough since Christmas Day .i feel really rotten and my chest is sore.recently dd2 had a cough and my gp said everyone in the area has it and they aren't prescribing anything for it .i feel dreadful what should I do leave it or go to gp tia

2 weeks with a cough is the time when you see the doctor. Anything less is normal....not pleasant but normal.

I'm sorry, you haven't had it long enough for it to be remotely likely to be the sort that needs antibiotics. My GP said a cough that hung around for three weeks plus should be checked, but not until then.
