Getting copies of x-rays/scans etc

How do I get copies of scans from a hospital? Are they only released for medico-legal reasons or can I request a copy just for my records?

I got a copy of my mri on a cd from the radiology department of the hospital that did it. I had to show them some ID and pay £20, then picked it up a week later.

Yes, request from either the radiology dept or medical records. There will be some tedious forms and ID checks. Then a small fee and you get the scan disc.

It's very common. Sometimes people are having consultations at other hospitals and need the records. Sometimes it is medico legal. They don't enquire why you want them.
