Mastitis but already on antibiotics

I was prescribed a course of antibiotics yesterday for a throat infection. This morning I woke up with a sore, swollen red breast - pretty sure it's mastitis as I've had it before so I'm familiar with how it feels!

Since I'm already on the antibiotics (and only on day 1 of the course), do I need to in back to the GP again or just carry on with the tablets?

Don't know on that one sorry. Have you tried one of the bfing helplines?

Might not be the right antibiotic - some used for sore throats will not necessarily work for the bacteria that cause mastitis - I would check with dr if antibiotic suitable

Yes you do need to go back. The antibiotics you were given for your throat may well not cover the type of bacteria that cause mastitis .

best option in first instance might be to phone the surgery, leave a message about this asking for the doctors opinion. If you are lucky you will either be told no need for anything different, or given an appointment/prescription.

I needed 500mg of amoxicilin to clear my mastitis 4 times a day - if your anti-biotics aren't that strong or taken that frequently I would go back to the GP
