First period after breast feeding..?

I'm still breast feeding my second child who is 8 months old. I fell pregnant with him after stopping breast feeding my first son and so never had a period between the two pregnancies.
I've started with period like pains for the last couple of days with an increase in cervical discharge. I had similar symptoms when I fell pregnant with my second child and in retrospect think it was either ovulation or implantation pain.

I never previously suffered from period pains or even noticed any aches associated with my cycle.
I was just wondering if periods are more uncomfortable when you first start ovulating again?
I may well be pregnant again (this time not planned!) so would appreciate any comments on whether you had similar symptoms when you first got your period after or while breast feeding.

I restarted my periods after about 9 months I think ( I breastfed until DD was 18months ) and for my first few periods I had cramps and pains. I'd never suffered them before and put it down to an unfortunate side effect of having a baby. But after a while things settled back down and I don't get period pains anymore.
