Metronidazole

Hi everyone

I'm currently on a 5 day course of metronidazole (400mg) for my bad wisdom tooth. I know it's an antibiotic you should NEVER drink on, but the pharmacist said I should also avoid alcohol for 48hours after completing the course. Is this just the pharm being cautious? I will take my last tablet around 4-5pm on Saturday, and I'm going out for a few drinks on Sunday night. I was only going to have a couple of glasses of wine, but I'm worried it's too risky.

Has anyone drank 24 hours after finishing this type of antibiotic?

I finished it last week. Urgh hated it, made me feel worse. I drank approximately 44hrs later! Was absolutely fine apart from a 2 day hangover, but that was probably the quantity and it was a very late night.

The tablets themselves haven't made me feel any different but they're not helping my tooth much to be honest, I'm on day 4 too!

Haha that must be the reason LAqueen - I'm an NHS patient! I only paid £12.75 and got a prescription for the antibiotics and ibuprofen, so maybe that doesn't cover any extra info about the drugs themselves! (I also had to wait 25 mins for my appointment)!

I drank two glasses of alcohol free wine while on it, and have never been so ill. The 0.04% alcohol that was still in it had me up all night vomitting with a spectacular headache. I also was very nauseous on mouthwash. It's lethal stuff and I wish someone had warned me how sensitive it was. In the end I wouldn't even eat a mince pie or Christmas cake just in case.

I had a course recently, took my last tablet about 9:30am on Thursday and had a drink (well, a few) on Friday about 6pm and I was absolutely fine.

I asked my friend who is a pharmacist who said after 24 hours is fine for most people (this was on my dose which I think was same as yours - also for a tooth infection) but that 48 it would be completely out of the system.

I did drink my first glass of wine very slowly though!
