Advice please! Bulge in ds's tummy!

Hi,

I'm fairly new to mn but was looking for some advice. My ds (9.5m) has a line down the middle of his tummy which kind of bulges out when he uses his tummy muscles (eg rolling over or trying to sit up). Just wanted to check if this is normal before I take him to gp.
He's had this since very young but I think I've become more aware of it as he's got bigger. Also when I poke about his tummy a bit I think I can feel a gap between his tummy muscles (remember what my own were like after he was born..lol)

Not an expert, sounds like a hernia but not sure- I would definitely go to the GP though, just to rule it out.

Bump for more learned advice

No, that's normal. It's a long ridge isn't it? Their abdominal muscles are rubbish at that age.

it's a long ridg from bottom of ribcage to belly button - roughly. Am worried about hernia now...??

My ds had something similar, the HV said they would check it again at 12 month checkup - it had sorted itself out by then (the gap in the muscles had closed up). I would get gp or hv to look at it to confirm diagnosis and give you advice.

I think hernias are usually small lumps rather than a ridge.

I'd just ask my HV I think rather than a GP.
