Eye moles

My dad has been told by his optician on Friday that a mole on the back of his eye has grown and sent an urgent letter to his GP to get him in to get it looked at. Told him that he could go blind in that eye.
Has anyone else had any experience of this?
How likely is it to be melanoma? My dad is 61, has driven for a living for most of his life and as far as i can remember never wore sunglasses.
I know we can't keep guessing until he's been seen by a consultant, but still sending me paranoid. I've tried googling (bad idea) to find out what else it can be, but everything points to melanoma due to its quick growth. Any opticians who might have an idea, i'd be grateful for any information.

Hiya,

sorry for the late reply, hope you still see this.

What I wanted to offer was that the older you are, the slower melanoma will grow and spread.

In terms of age he is in a good place. If he was 40, the outlook, if that's what it is, would be worse.

I hope it is not melanoma but if it is there also a lot of new drugs out there and trials of them...try and get him to the nearest centre of excellence.

If you're in London that's St Georges Tooting or the Marsden

UK melanoma forum is excellent for this sort of information.

All the best x

Hi, I wanted to add that it's very positive that the optician has seen this, and referred your Dad for treatment/consult.
Please try not to be paranoid, as hard as that actually is.
Sending you and your Dad and family well wishes and good vibes xx

Thank you for your replies, I'm still waiting to hear from him what the GP says, my MIL is dying of cancer so I think they are withholding info from me due to stress we're already under, but he's my daddy I feel I need to know :,-(
