Purple spots?

Hi I wonder if any of you know what this might be. I I have 3 purple spots on my back. The first one came up 6 months ago. They start pink, then red then purple. Have been to gp and he has given me an urgent 2 week referal to adult rapid access investigation service clinic 7 at addenbrookes. Unfortunately apart from saying it looks suspicous I didn't get much info as I had my 2 year old with me and didnt take in much of what he said. It says might indicate cancer on the paper work but what type? Skin cancer? Thanks

I don't have a clue, I'm sorry, but didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Hopefully someone else will chip in - but I would have thought yes, a GP would want any unexplained spots to be checked in case of skin cancers (which are mostly very treatable and not life threatening, which you probably know - but just in case!).

Hope you get answers soon, and that they are reassuring.

Than you for the reply Eli I was hoping someone might know:( I've also had dizzy spells over the past 6 months and a swollen gland in my neck but don't know if that could be related

The only sort of cancers I can think of involving purple lesions would be Kaposi's sarcoma - or possible a rare type of melanoma.

There could be all sorts of other things causing them.

I hope that you can find out soon and put your mind at rest....take care, try not to panic. They have to refer if they have any doubt at all.

A lot of referrals come to nowt.

Thanks I heard. Wouldn't have thought it was kaposi, had a hiv test when pregnant 3 years ago and all was good and not from the at risk groups. Am trying not to worry about it, have shown a nurse friend and she said they will just take it off and test it but it doesn't look awful to her. Am worried there's an underlying cause though:(

Sometimes I get purple spots next to my shoulderblades where it's a bit more fleshy. I think this is normal. Hoping it's something harmless, OP.
