I have felt awful for 2 wks now thought was just a cold to begin with but each day I feel worse :(

Everything aches, iv had a swollen not sore throat sore ears runny/blocked nose eyes streaming feel like iv been punched in the face and I'm freezing all day long can not warm up then in the night I go hot. Also my chest hurts but no cough tho did have to start with as it set my asthma off a bit.

I'm bf dd so only took some paracetamol but it's not really done much tried steam and drinking honey & lemon. I had the flu jab this yr is it possible this is mild flu and I should stop acting like super woman and have a rest? It's just last time I had real flu was about 10 yrs ago and I literally couldn't get out of bed but I managed for a wk last yr 29 wks pregnant running round after 2 kids under 4 with pneumonia before i finally admitted defeat have I toughened up since having babies or am I just being a real woos now and need to shut up and get on with it?

I know no one can diagnose over internet just looking for opinions as I'm feeling really rotten and quite sorry for myself

Not sure if it's flu, but sounds horrible. Suggest a visit to the gp to see what they say!

Don't wish to worry you, but could it be mastitis?
Apparently shows as flu like symptoms sometimes. Have put NHS link here:

symptons

Thank u i think I'll have to go gp at sum point this wk as have chest pain and suspect my cold may have travelled.

Fried sprout don't worry I had considered mastitis but my boobs rnt sore I had also convinced myself it was retained placenta as iv had it with all 3 dc but sure if have been ill before now if that were the case

It doesn't sound like flu.
The test for flu is- if there was a £million in your garden would you get out of bed and get it? If the answer is no, then it's not flu.

Sounds like a horrid virus but rest ( ha ha) is the best treatment with lots of hot drinks etc.

varigatedivy · 16/12/2013 09:43

sorry- typo- that should be if you wouldn't get out of bed then it's flu- you know what I meant!

Hope you feel better anyway.

fedupandtired · 16/12/2013 17:03

Actually it's a myth that you can't get out of bed with the flu because there are different types. Type C is worse than a cold but not as bad as types A&B but is still the flu. There's also the possibility that you started off with a cold and then caught flu on top if it. It can happen.

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 16/12/2013 17:15

Lol rest what is that ??? Smile
I knew what u meant with the million pounds don't worry ;) that's y I was questioning if I was just feeling sorry for myself

Fed up interesting there's different types of flu didn't know that I do think I started with. Cold and as it's not shifted it's paved way for something else. My dd 10 months has a really nasty chest infection atm so I don't want to drag her out the house to c dr for myself but my chest is so sore hopefully it's viral and it'll go away on it's own

what do you man different types of flu? How can you know which strains of flu are around in any one season? They change all the time which is why the flu vaccine changes every year.

Real flu kills people. My Dh ended up with complications for 2 years after flu resulting in MRI scans etc. I get very cross when people say they have flu when they have a bad cold.

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 16/12/2013 22:01

C any time I have had the flu iv been so ill I literally couldn't get out of bed couldn't eat couldn't go toilet on my own and always end up with a chest infection on top hence me thinking I was being silly. I always thought real flu was u couldn't get out of bed for a million pounds and I'd hate to b sat in the Drs waiting room using up an appointment when actually I just need to keep going I only questioned myself cos I ended up seriously poorly with pneumonia last yr being stubborn and refused to go Drs for a wk. hope I haven't offended

You could have paraflu. I've had it recently and felt like cack for 2 weeks - the reason why I know it was that is that DS has leukaemia and ended up in hospital with it and they tested him for it. It's like a severe cold but not as bad as flu, unless you're having chemo Sad

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 16/12/2013 22:07

Awww bless ur ds twunk :( poor thing hugs to u x x

mummy- sorry didn't mean you especially- just in general! I get annoyed when people are out in the shops etc or at work saying they have 'the flu'.

If you think you might have a chest infection then go to drs- and get well soon :)

fedupandtired · 16/12/2013 22:23

Google different types of flu. That'll tell you. I'm sure we've all heard of people who tested positive for bird flu who weren't that ill (meaning they could get out of bed).

A common cold can be very unpleasant but does not hang around for weeks, without getting any better.

As I said, google it.

Twunk · 16/12/2013 22:24

Thanks mummyto2. Get yourself to the dr to at least have your chest listened to. DS is fine now but we both felt terrible for 2 weeks.

chubley · 17/12/2013 12:04

mummyto, this sounds like what I've got, think there's a lot going round. I sometimes get hot during the day and really hot at night - have taken a damp flannel to bed to cool down a bit! I do have the cough - was coughing loads in the night, couldn't sleep much. The cough is in my throat. I'm not prone to chest infections generally so don't think there's much point me going to the dr....

NOt heard of paraflu, will google it.

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 17/12/2013 13:19

Iv been to Drs nasty sinus infection that she thinks it's turning bacterial so I have precautionary anti bs in the hope it gets rid of it and stops me ending up with a chest infection for Xmas
