Tmi question about sinusitus

If anyone is around.

I have had what i am assuming is a sinus infection since sunday, following a cold that started two weeks ago.

Sunday night left side of face in agony and flaming hot, no sleep all night. (This was preceded by feeling like absolute death for the few days prior) Monday morning large amount of mucus from nose and still lots of pain. Been taking ibuprofen and googled, sounded like a sinus infection and decided to try saline flushes to get rid, this seemed to ease the pain but still getting lots of mucusy stuff. Pain never gone completely and mucus stil until this evening when suddenly no more, just normal, clear slight runny nose and very little however my ears feel like i'm in an airplane and they need popped.

I was worried it was developing into an ear infection or does the lack of mucus mean infection has cleared and ear sensation is some sort of side effect of having clear sinuses? Did have pain around side of nose and both ears this evening so took ibuprofen so cant feel any pain now just poppy feeling.

Any insight would be great as if not cleared will try and see gp in Monday for Antibiotic.

Have you tried steam?

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 14/12/2013 00:35

Yes, you need to keep doing it. If you can get some menthol crystals tomorrow, even better.

Would vicks vapour rub do the same job in the water?

Yep, used it myself last week Smile

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 14/12/2013 00:55

Thanks jingles will give it a go.

Do you think i should still get an anti biotic? I'd rather avoid it if possible.

Or Olbas oil.

I am interested in this as I've had a cold and cough. I'm now recovering and feeling much better but have lost my sense of taste. I've taken sinutab and have some steroid nasal spray (long boring story) but I still can't taste anything. It's driving me nuts. I will give the steam and menthol a go. Any other ideas? Thanks

Get thee a neti pot.

They are better as prevention rather than cure, (and I am not good at faffing when I'm not in sinus agony) but they really do work.

Jinglejohnsjulie · 14/12/2013 13:44

Neti pot? Do tell...Xmas Smile

Roastbeefandyorkshires · 14/12/2013 13:59

Have you tried Otrivine?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 14/12/2013 14:05

Neti pots....easier to watch the video on Youtube than explain tbh. Shaped like a mini men's urinal bottle.....you put some warm water and salt in, tip your head on one side and pour down your schnozz. It comes out of the opposite nostril and your ears pop and crackle and feel like they might explode but by heck, it works.

Quite easy once you get the hang. And I speak as someone who almost had to go to A and E to get a mooncup out. Xmas Grin

Drank thats where i got the idea of the saline flush from, i saw the video on youttiube of the guy doing his with a neti pot. The best thing i could find was a sports drink bottle so used it and had the ear crackly things aswell.

Still have a sore head today and slightly sore cheek so will do vicks in hot water tonight.

Xmas Grin at the neti pot and double Xmas Grin at the mooncup.
