Hi. My anxiety is always worse during my time of the month. Please help me. I put a load of washing on and I have liquid which I poured into a small cup like container and placed in the washing machine. I wasn't paying attention and it spilled. I wiped it off and then run my hand under the tap.
I dished up dinner (I did use my fingers to pick up the DCs potatoes, really wished I hadn't). Then I licked my fingers, really not sure why, as I never never do this. Anyway the tasted funny, so I licked them again as I wasn't sure why. Then it hit me, they taste of the washing liquid.
I am very worried that I have poisoned myself and potentially the DCs via the potatoes. My DH says I am being very silly as my hands were clean.
Am I exaggerating?

You would have to drink lots of it to cause damage to your body. A bit from a capful won't even produce a bubbly trump. Have a glass of something to get rid of the soapy taste. Honestly it won't harm you or the potatoes.

Thanks for replying. I will try to put it to the back of my mind. Off out shopping soon so hopefully the pleasure of gift buying will replace my anxiety...or the stress of spending money will make me forget! I try to not go on in front of DCs as I don't want them to witness by anxiety so mumsnet if great for getting things off your chest!

Ah, you poor thing. It's awful when we get gripped by a fear like this that just won't go away.

There is literally zero chance that you've hurt yourself of your DCs. Zero. Something so poisonous that the tiniest taste could kill you would not be sold in the shops. You'd have to drink a cup full to get ill.

After you washed your hands, probably only the fragrance was left - that's what you tasted. Think of all the shower gel & soap that accidentally gets into our mouths - that doesn't hurt us.

Deep breath and try and find something to distract you :)
